Cinderella

This illustration was created to tell the entire story of Cinderella within a single image, bringing together its key moments in one cohesive composition.

I was inspired by two Cinderella books I loved as a child, illustrated by Nilesh Mistry and Angelo Bioletto, whose images felt like moving scenes, rich in detail and narrative. Disney’s Cinderella, which I watched countless times growing up, also played an important role.

Costume Design

The costumes were inspired by the 1938 film Marie Antoinette, starring Norma Shearer, with gowns designed by Adrien. Their dramatic silhouettes and opulence served as a base for the designs.

Since the film is in black and white, this became an opportunity to reinterpret those costumes in color.

Scenery

I was also influenced by Marie Antoinette (art direction by Cedric Gibbons), as well as the Palace of Versailles and the grand staircase of the Palais Garnier.

Process

Some sections of the mural were developed as standalone illustrations from the start.

After the sketch and line art, I explored color and rendering through variations of the Fairy Godmother scene, first in a watercolor approach and later in a higher-contrast style.

Different sections were developed individually and then combined into the final composition, considering how they could also work across different formats, such as illustrated books, coloring books and puzzles.
