Cinderella

My goal with this illustration was to tell the entire story of Cinderella in a single image, highlighting its key moments within a cohesive composition.

My inspiration came from the two Cinderella books I loved most as a child, one illustrated by Nilesh Mistry and the other by Angelo Bioletto. Their illustrations felt like moving pictures to me: they were not only richly detailed and beautiful, but also brought the story to life visually. I was also influenced by Disney’s Cinderella, which I watched countless times while growing up.

My goal with this illustration was to tell the entire story of Cinderella in a single image, highlighting its key moments within a cohesive composition.

Process

From the beginning, I wanted some of the illustrations within the mural to also function as standalone pieces. After finishing the sketch and line art, I began testing the colors and painting style with a variation of the Fairy Godmother scene, first in a watercolor style and later in a more high contrast approach.

I also developed other sections separately, gradually composing the full image while imagining how each part could work across different formats, such as illustrated books, coloring books and puzzles.
